Welcome to South Mountain Elementary School

South Mountain Elementary School, built in 1997 as part of the Wausau School District, provides comprehensive kindergarten through grade 5 programming including art, music, physical education, science, and library.  Located in the Village of Rib Mountain, our school focuses on the development of the whole child; socially, emotionally and academically. We also offer special services in the areas of Special Education, Multi-Lingual Support, and Gifted and Talented programming.  Staff at our school believes strongly in educating students in an inclusive environment while also providing them with the individualized support they need to be successful.

South Mountain is incredibly fortunate to have an active and successful Parent Teacher Organization. The PTO has been supportive of our school, and has provided many opportunities for students to grow, as well as materials, resources, and supplies needed throughout the school. The PTO also sponsors a number of events throughout the year including:  ice cream socials, Trunk or Treat, book fairs, and our End of the Year Celebration. All of these events make South Mountain School and the surrounding community a special place to be.
